The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has introduced new regulations to enhance consumer protection in the telecom sector. Here are the main points:
1. Special Tariff Voucher (STV): A new STV specifically for Voice and SMS services has been introduced to provide more options to consumers, especially benefiting elderly and rural customers.
2. Extended Validity Period: The validity period for STVs and Combo Vouchers (CVs) has been increased from 90 days to 365 days, offering greater flexibility and convenience.
3. Changes to Top-Up Vouchers: The restriction on top-up vouchers being limited to denominations of ₹10 and its multiples has been removed, although at least one ₹10 top-up voucher will still be available to ensure affordability.
4. Abolition of Colour Coding: The requirement for colour coding physical vouchers has been abolished, reflecting the trend of online recharges.
These amendments aim to improve the consumer experience and ensure fair practices among service providers.
