1) 🇮🇳 National

  • Dinesh Sharma appointed: President Droupadi Murmu has appointed Dr. Dinesh Sharma as the new Lieutenant Governor of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The appointment will take effect from the date he assumes office.

  • Forex reserves: India's foreign-exchange reserves have reached a new record of approximately US$740.8 billion by the end of August 2026.

  • LIC–ICICI Bank: The RBI has approved the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) to increase its stake in ICICI Bank up to 9.99%.

  • The approval is valid for one year and is subject to compliance with applicable regulatory requirements.

  • GDP growth: India's real GDP recorded 7.8% growth in Q1 FY2026–27, with manufacturing growth of 9.2%.

  • Liquidity management: The RBI continues to use Variable Rate Reverse Repo (VRRR) operations to absorb surplus liquidity from the banking system.
