Semicon 2.0: The Government of India has notified Semicon 2.0 with an outlay of ₹1,27,500 crore, aimed at strengthening India’s semiconductor ecosystem and domestic chip manufacturing.
Jammu & Kashmir International Film Festival: Jammu & Kashmir will host its first-ever international film festival, “Rang-e-Cinema,” from 7–10 September 2026, with participation from 41 countries and more than 135 entries shortlisted.
Railway infrastructure: Six railway-line projects covering 647 km have received approval under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM).
India Post GDS: Registration for Gramin Dak Sevak Schedule-II 2026 is underway, with 23,757 vacancies announced.
India–Uzbekistan: India and Uzbekistan have agreed to work towards a long-term uranium supply arrangement and set a US$5 billion bilateral trade target by 2030.

SCO Summit 2026: The 26th Shanghai Cooperation Organisation Summit is being held in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, from 31 August to 1 September 2026.
India–Iran: Prime Minister Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on the sidelines of the SCO Summit.
Nepal floods: The devastating Himalayan flood disaster has reportedly caused more than 900 deaths, while over 4,200 people remain missing.
Himalayan climate risk: The disaster has highlighted the increasing vulnerability of the Hindu Kush Himalaya region to glacial instability, extreme rainfall and flash floods.
SCO milestone: The Shanghai Cooperation Organisation was established in 2001, and India became a full member in 2017.

India’s GDP growth: Real GDP grew by 7.8% year-on-year in Q1 of FY 2026–27 (April–June 2026), exceeding the RBI’s earlier 7% forecast.
Manufacturing growth: Manufacturing expanded by 9.2% during the April–June quarter.
Services growth: The services sector grew by approximately 10% in Q1 FY27.
Gross Fixed Capital Formation: Real GFCF increased by 11.9%, indicating stronger investment activity.
Forex reserves: India’s foreign-exchange reserves remain around a record US$729.33 billion.
Foreign portfolio investment: FPIs invested approximately US$3.1 billion in Indian equities during August 2026, the highest monthly inflow in nearly two years.

National Nutrition Week: 1–7 September is observed as National Nutrition Week in India to create awareness about balanced nutrition, healthy diets and the fight against malnutrition.
Exam Point: National Nutrition Week in India was first launched in 1982.
September begins: September is an important month for competitive-exam preparation because it includes Teachers’ Day, Hindi Diwas, Engineers’ Day, International Literacy Day and World Ozone Day.
World Sexual and Reproductive Health Month: September is also observed internationally as a month dedicated to awareness of sexual and reproductive health.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi — Indian teenage cricketer who created a Duleep Trophy record.
At 15 years and 157 days, he became the youngest player to score a half-century in Duleep Trophy history.
He reached his fifty in just 42 balls and eventually scored 92 runs from 81 balls.
He broke the previous record held by Laxman Singh, who had scored a half-century at the age of 16 years and 23 days in 1969.

Women’s Asia Cup: India began its Women’s Asia Cup campaign with a dominant 94-run victory over Thailand.
Shafali Verma scored 64 runs, helping India post 159/9.
India then restricted Thailand to 65 runs, with Nandini Sharma and Deepti Sharma taking three wickets each.

AFC U-20 Asian Cup: India’s U-20 men’s team is competing in the qualifying tournament for the AFC U-20 Asian Cup China 2027.

Oliy Darajali Do’stlik Order: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was conferred Uzbekistan’s highest state honour, the Oliy Darajali Do’stlik Order.
The honour recognises his contribution to strengthening India–Uzbekistan strategic relations and bilateral friendship.
PM Modi dedicated the honour to the people of India and the enduring friendship between India and Uzbekistan.
Exam Point: The award is one of the highest recognitions conferred by the Republic of Uzbekistan on foreign leaders.

Apple leadership change: John Ternus takes over as the new CEO of Apple from 1 September 2026, succeeding Tim Cook, who becomes Executive Chairman.
Railway leadership: Satish Kumar continues as Chairman & CEO of the Railway Board following a further one-year extension effective 1 September 2026.
AIIMS recruitment examination: A recruitment re-examination at an affected centre in Jaipur was cancelled following technical problems, with a fresh examination to be conducted later.
Digital governance: India continues to expand technology-led governance and digital infrastructure through initiatives in semiconductors, digital payments and public-service delivery.
