1) 🇮🇳 National

  • The Union Cabinet approved three railway multitracking projects worth ₹10,783 crore, covering about 656 km across five states.

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Global Fintech Fest 2026 in Mumbai, highlighting UPI, artificial intelligence, digital finance and financial inclusion.

  • India and Japan are conducting the Veer Guardian-2026 air exercise at Air Force Station Jodhpur, strengthening defence interoperability between the two countries.

  • Navy Chief Admiral Krishna Swaminathan began an official visit to Australia and New Zealand on September 9 to strengthen bilateral maritime and defence cooperation.

  • The 18th BRICS Summit under India’s chairmanship is scheduled for September 12–13, 2026, at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi.

2) 🌍 International

  • The IAEA reported the construction of a new uranium-enrichment facility at North Korea’s Yongbyon nuclear complex, raising concerns over the expansion of its nuclear programme.

  • The new facility is assessed to have capacity for up to 28 centrifuge cascades.

  • The United Kingdom, France, nine other European countries and Canada announced measures targeting products originating from Israeli settlements in the West Bank.

  • The United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres called on world leaders to increase investment in peace, diplomacy, dialogue and peacekeeping amid growing global conflicts.

  • The international community continues to closely monitor the escalating West Asian geopolitical crisis, particularly its impact on energy supplies and global markets.

3) 💰 Economy

  • India’s merchandise exports increased by more than 15% during April–August 2026, despite continuing global economic uncertainty.

  • India’s foreign-exchange reserves stood at around US$740.8 billion, close to record levels.

  • The RBI has expanded retail foreign-exchange services through Bharat Connect, adding euro, British pound, UAE dirham, Swiss franc and Canadian dollar alongside the US dollar.

  • The Sensex fell 813 points to 74,764, while the Nifty declined 204 points to 23,432, amid rising crude-oil prices and geopolitical tensions.

  • Brent crude crossed US$100 per barrel, while the Indian rupee weakened to around ₹95.1 per US dollar.

World Suicide Prevention Day – September 10

  • Observed every year on September 10.

  • The day was initiated in 2003 by the International Association for Suicide Prevention (IASP) with support from the World Health Organization (WHO).

  • 2026 theme: “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”

  • The campaign encourages open conversations, reduction of stigma and stronger community-based prevention efforts.

  • 2026 is the third and final year of the 2024–2026 triennial campaign.

Basappa Danappa Jatti

  • Born: 10 September 1912

  • Indian politician and statesman from Karnataka.

  • Served as the 5th Vice-President of India from 1974 to 1979.

  • Served as Acting President of India from 11 February to 25 July 1977, following the death of President Fakhruddin Ali Ahmed.

  • Earlier served as the Chief Minister of Mysore State.

  • September 10 marks the birth anniversary of B. D. Jatti.

6) 🏅 Sports

  • India’s junior men’s hockey team entered the semifinals of the 2026 Men’s Junior Asia Cup after defeating Chinese Taipei 15–0.

  • Indian captain Anmol Ikka was the star performer, scoring six goals in the match.

  • India finished the pool stage unbeaten and continues its title defence.

  • In the Women’s Junior Asia Cup, India drew 0–0 with China and finished top of the Elite Pool with 10 points.

  • India will face Pakistan in the quarter-final of the Women’s Junior Asia Cup.

  • The 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, begin on September 19 and continue until October 4. India’s men’s hockey team will defend its Asian Games title.

  • Former Chief Justice of India Justice Dipak Misra was conferred the Kalinga Ratna Award in Cuttack for his contributions to public life and the legal field.

  • Kennedy D’Silva, director of the Karuna Football Foundation, received the Asian Excellence Award 2026 for Humanitarian Excellence through Sports.

  • Para archer Sheetal Devi received the Para Archer of the Year honour from World Archery.

  • The 72nd National Film Awards will be presented by President Droupadi Murmu on September 22, 2026, at Ekta Nagar, Gujarat.

  • Article 370 has been selected as the Best Feature Film at the 72nd National Film Awards.

  • Global Fintech Fest 2026: Mumbai is hosting major discussions on AI, tokenisation, digital payments, fintech innovation and financial inclusion.

  • World Archery Para Series 2026: Ahmedabad hosted the event from September 5–9, marking the first time India hosted a World Archery Para Series event.

  • BRICS 2026: India’s presidency is focusing on multilateralism, innovation, resilient supply chains, green energy and greater cooperation among emerging economies.

  • Asian Games 2026: The Games will be held in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, from September 19 to October 4.

  • National Film Awards: The 72nd edition marks the first major move of the ceremony outside the national capital, with Ekta Nagar, Gujarat, chosen as the venue.
