The 18th BRICS Summit concluded with leaders reaffirming the importance of multilateralism, dialogue and peaceful resolution of conflicts.
BRICS leaders called for greater representation of the Global South in international institutions, including the United Nations Security Council.
The expanded BRICS grouping now has 11 member countries: Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, the UAE, Indonesia and Saudi Arabia.
China will hold the BRICS Chairship in 2027, following India’s 2026 presidency.
The Xiangshan Forum begins in Beijing, bringing together defence officials, diplomats and security experts to discuss regional and global security issues.
3) 💰 Economy
India’s foreign-exchange reserves recently reached a record US$785.706 billion for the week ended September 4, 2026.
The reserves rose by a record US$44.903 billion in one week, supported by large foreign-currency inflows.
Foreign Currency Assets increased by around US$47.498 billion to approximately US$648.168 billion.
The RBI continues to manage the resulting surplus liquidity in the banking system through liquidity-absorption operations.
India has launched a pilot for tokenised corporate bonds under the Demat 2.0 framework, using distributed-ledger technology and CBDC infrastructure.
The pilot has seen three issuers — REC, L&T and IIFL Finance — raise a combined ₹1,025 crore.

Hindi Diwas – September 14
Observed every year on September 14.
On September 14, 1949, the Constituent Assembly adopted Hindi in Devanagari script as the Official Language of the Union.
The constitutional provision is contained in Article 343(1) under Part XVII of the Constitution.
The first Hindi Diwas was celebrated in 1953.
English continues to be used for official purposes alongside Hindi under the constitutional and statutory framework.
The Department of Official Language, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, is the nodal department for promoting the use of Hindi in official work.
Ganesh Chaturthi – September 14
Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 is being celebrated today.
The festival marks the birth of Lord Ganesha, associated with wisdom, prosperity and the removal of obstacles.
The 10-day festival culminates in Anant Chaturdashi on September 25, 2026.
It is celebrated with particular prominence in Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

Beohar Rajendra Simha
Born: September 14, 1900.
Indian scholar, linguist and prominent advocate of Hindi.
His birth anniversary coincides with Hindi Diwas.
He played an important role in the movement for recognising Hindi in Devanagari script as the Official Language of the Union.
September 14, 1949 — the date associated with the adoption of Hindi as the Official Language — was also his 50th birth anniversary.
He is remembered for his contribution to the promotion and development of the Hindi language.

India’s women’s cricket team won the 2026 Women’s Asia Cup, defeating Sri Lanka by 72 runs in the final in Dubai.
India scored 183/5, while Sri Lanka were bowled out for 111.
Shafali Verma scored 68 runs, while Smriti Mandhana contributed 59 runs.
Shafali and Mandhana shared a 129-run opening partnership.
Sree Charani took 4 wickets, while Deepti Sharma claimed 3 wickets.
India secured a record-extending eighth Women’s Asia Cup title.
India’s junior men’s hockey team also won the 2026 Junior Asia Cup, defeating South Korea 4–1 in the final.
