The Reserve Bank of India begins its ₹1 lakh crore Open Market Sale (OMO) of government securities today to absorb excess liquidity from the banking system.

India’s banking-system surplus liquidity had crossed approximately ₹11 lakh crore, creating pressure on short-term interest rates.
The excess liquidity has been linked significantly to large foreign-currency inflows following the RBI’s special forex mobilisation measures.
The government has reduced export levies on petrol, diesel and Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) with effect from September 16, 2026, as part of its regular fortnightly review.
Rising global crude-oil prices remain a major concern for India because higher oil prices can increase the import bill, inflationary pressure and current-account deficit.
