  • Ophthalmology Research: India’s first International Ophthalmology Research Conference commenced at the Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi. It is being organised by the Army Hospital (R&R) in collaboration with the All-India Ophthalmological Society.
  •  Indigenous Weapons: DRDO and the Indian Air Force successfully conducted the maiden flight-trial of TARA (Tactical Advanced Range Augmentation), India’s first indigenous glide weapon system, off the coast of Odisha.
  •  Judicial Reform: The strength of Supreme Court Judges has been increased from 33 to 37 to address judicial pendency and improve case disposal rates.
  • New Species: Researchers from Annamalai University discovered a new plant species, Cyphostemma annamalaii, belonging to the grape family, in the southern Eastern Ghats of Tamil Nadu.

  •  World Inequality Report 2026: The report highlights that the top 10% of the global population now owns nearly 75% of all wealth, while the bottom 50% holds just 2%.

  • Trade Warning: The Global Trade Research Initiative (GTRI) cautioned India against rushing into a bilateral trade deal with the US, citing an unpredictable tariff regime following US court rulings against global trade taxes.
  • Indian Inequality: According to the 2026 World Inequality Report, the top 1% of Indians hold 40% of the national wealth, making India one of the most unequal countries globally.
  • Investment Trends: Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) have reportedly pulled out ₹1.8 lakh crore from Indian markets in the first four months of 2026 due to global risk aversion.
